Dmitrijs, precast worker

COMING FROM ABROAD TO WORK IN FINLAND

Dmitrijs originally comes from Kuldiga, Latvia. Like many Latvian precast workers, he made the decision to relocate to Finland two years ago because of the higher wages Finland offers. He ended up with Folka due to a recommendation from a friend: “I had heard that Folka is a good and reliable employer. They have contracts with big precast factories and wages are always paid on time.”

WE HELP WITH THE MOVE AND PROVIDE SERVICES IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES

To Dmitrijs, the best thing about working at Folka has been the comprehensive nature of its service.

“Workers are given good housing and they are helped with everything related to the move. I was given assistance with work permits and entry documents, and everything has been quick and easy. The service is available in English and Russian, depending on your language skills.”

WE TAKE CARE OF OUR EMPLOYEES

“Everything has gone much better than I expected; the salary has been a positive surprise in many aspects. I've already received a raise and my overtime pay is exactly what it should be. Folka has given us all the necessary clothing and equipment, and they are continually investing in work safety.”

WORKING IN FINLAND IS EASIER THAN IN LATVIA

Dmitrijs has now been working as a precast manufacturer for seven years. He started working in precast factories straight from high school. Coming to work in Finland was relatively easy, especially as he already had experience in the field.

“Working in Finland is easier than in Latvia, because in Latvia, there are much more complex elements being made in factories. After working in Latvia, you can do almost anything here. Of course, it is always exciting when you go to a new factory for the first time to work, even if the industry is familiar. However, the employment guidance here has been really comprehensive.”

GOOD EMPLOYERS ATTRACT TALENTED STAFF

Dmitrijs does not know that much Finnish yet. He says whether you need to know the language or not is highly dependent on the individual factory: “If you speak Latvian or Russian, it'll be fine. In any case, the supervisors always speak English.” Dmitrijs has recommended Folka as an employer to others, and ten new concrete workers have already been employed in Finland through him.

“I have just been telling people how well I've been doing and everyone has been interested in coming here to work.”

SATISFIED EMPLOYEES

Dmitrijs has now been working in the current precast factory for 1.5 years and he has an indefinite employment contract with them. In the future, he would like to get new challenges in work life and maybe try out another field: “Challenges bring spice in to ones life. You never know where you will end up in the future, but at the moment I'm really happy with my job.”
