Rental work – a flexible option for many different life situations

Featured Image

A career is a long journey and lasts an average of 35–40 years in Finland. Thus it is important to find a job that inspires, interests and can be adapted to different situations. Today, however, careers rarely consist of a single occupation or employment relationship.

Working life is constantly changing and the current situation fortunately offers a wide range of employment opportunities for different needs. One of these opportunities is rental work, the best attribute of which is flexibility. An employee can have an influence on their own workload and their own work.

what is rental work?

Rental work means that the company employing a worker is different from the company where the work is physically performed. The employee enters into an employment contract with a recruitment agency, but the work itself is carried out on the client company's premises and with their equipment.

The employer hires employees from a recruitment agency to perform the work whenever needed. Rental work may be full-time, part-time, fixed-term, temporary work, known as a zero-hours contract, or indefinite. Rental work contracts always follow the collective labour agreement of the customer’s company.

three way agreement

The actual employer of the rental worker is a recruitment agency that enters into a contract with the employee. The recruitment agency pays the employee's salary and takes care of all other obligations, such as insurance and occupational healthcare. The recruitment agency charges the user company for the use of labour and any other services included in the contract.

The task of the client company is to acquaint and guide the employee in their daily work. Temporary employees work under the management of the client company and have all the same benefits and rights as the company's own employees.

who is rental work suitable for?

Rental work is suitable for everyone regardless of their life situation. For example, you could be a student who wants to work alongside your studies, a young person who is looking for their first job, or someone changing their field who wants to gain diverse work experience from a variety of jobs without long-term commitments.

Nowadays, many retirees also work as rental workers to earn extra money or because they want to continue participating in working life. In addition to work experience, rental work provides valuable contacts and networks and can also serve as a first step towards a permanent job.

benefits of rental work

Rental jobs are often so-called low-threshold jobs, which means that these jobs do not necessarily require previous work experience, but rather a positive attitude and willingness to work. Hiring for rental work is also a truly quick process if you need work urgently. At our fastest, people at Folka will be employed by a client company around a week after submitting a job application.

The best thing about rental work is its flexibility. You can choose the shifts to suit your everyday life and decide which client companies you will work for at any given time. You get to try out different industries and jobs, and as a temporary worker you could one day be a childcare worker substitute in a day-care centre and the next work as a warehouse worker in the logistics industry, the choice is yours.

an easy and secure employer

When you fill out an application with a recruitment agency, you can access hundreds of jobs with a single CV and job application without the hassle of submitting separate applications. There are thousands of employers in the customer databases of recruitment agencies, and you can always get the job search that matches your skills with the application you submit. When we receive a new work order, we always go through our existing employee pool at Folka and look for people for an open job.

salary always paid right and on time

The salary of the rental worker is always in accordance with the customer company's collective agreement and is paid on time. If your job in a client company ends, we will offer you a new position in a similar company before the end of the previous contract.

Many client companies are also happy to employ a good rental worker on their own payroll as the rental employment contract draws to a close.
